The Lys?ardigan is inspired by Ole Bulls beautiful summer house, Lys? It was built in 1872 and is located on a small island south of Bergen. It is often referred to as a fairytale palace, or his little Alhambra, as he named it himself. The special architecture with the unique onion shaped globes, tendril formed trelliswork, archways, woodcarvings, staircases and towers are reflections of Ole Bulls many journeys - an elegant mixture from all over the world. In the Lys?ardigan you will find design elements inspired by heather, which was Ole Bulls favorite flower. This can also be seen in the embroidery on the neck shield. You can also see the beautiful rose of Os (a special rose named after Os, a place close to Lys? which is found on the woodcarvings in the Music room. Ornaments in the fairytale palace inspire a lot of the design borders. There are also included elements from a beautiful Russian tablecloth found in the Music room. The fairytale palace and the surrounding sea inspire the color combination white and blue/gray. The purple from the heather flower and the black by embroideries on the tablecloth in the Music room.
